SEATROUT FISHING TUITION / GAME ANGLING INSTRUCTOR IN NORTH WALES

Update 3rd September 2010

Peter Weir with No 52 off the Beat this year.

Update 29th August 2010

The skies cleared up tonight and the temperature dropped away, the breeze with it saved the night from becoming misty. In very difficult conditions Matt Brookbank secured this one on a Dovey Black and Orange.

Update 28th August 2010

Cloud cover this evening made good fishing conditions and although it was slow to start with these three fell to a Black and Silver Tubefly in the space of 5 casts on one pool.

Update 17th August 2010

Bert Walsh managed this Seatrout tonight, but it was a strange night overall, with hardly a fish showing.

Update 16th August 2010

Iwan Lewis with another Welsh Dee Seatrout of 2 lb 8 oz.

Update 5th August 2010

Tonight it was Iwan Lewis' turn and i also fished with him, we managed four between us, great fishing but it was late on when it happened.

Update 2nd August 2010

The sky cleared up to show the stars, the temperature plummeted, the fishing became difficult with just tweaks and small bumps, then the dreaded mist came off the river to ruin it. Despite this Brian Williams did get this one, well done Brian.

Update 31st July 2010

David Burbridge on his first 'Night Time' Seatrouting expedition did well with these two nice fish. The photographer needs to pay a visit to 'Specsavers' me thinks... out of focus Mr Hughes!

Update 29th July 2010

Arwel Thomas' first experience of 'Seatrouting'and night time fishing, resulted in these three nice fish.

Update 26th July 2010

Shaun Coadey ended up with three nice Seatrout tonight off one of the beats I use, with 24 off the beat already this year, it is a far better result than in the past few years, looks promising.

Update 18th July 2010

With a small rise 4" in the water on Friday daytime proved best for the Seatrout fishing, here are some pics from Friday and Saturday 16th /17th.

Update 14th July 2010

The Seatrout are arriving in the upper Dee. So far I know of 7 fish that have been taken, mostly in the daytime on 'Fly' in fast water. Mark West accounted for three on the same day, here they are.

Booking now being taken for night time guided 'Seatrout Fishing' please e mail: ghughes2@btinternet.com

Update 15th August 2009

Peter Weir has also been waiting for his chance at the Seatrout, his knowledge and expertise enhances with each visit to the river, here is his first Seatrout nightime Seatrout, well done Peter.

Update 8th August 2009

Marc Jervis has been waiting since 2008 for his outing at the Seatrout and last night the water was dropping off nicely although we had a full moon there were a few clouds about and we were in with a chance. Marc had never been Seatrout fishing before. There were a few tweeks and bumps at the fly early on, but true to form at about 12 midnight a proper thump followed by splashes and the fish freed himself ... a good one too ... judging by the comotion on the pool surface. I was fairly confident as the night drew later and at 1am Mark was into a fish which I was able to net for him, one of these 'wallop' takes followed by some acrobatics. 'Marc is no longer a seatrout virgin' and he now has the basic knowledge of what he needs to do to succeed. A picture off the mobile phone.

Mark sent a message "Thanks for last night Gwilym, brilliant, I'll never forget it, now I know what to do I can't wait to get out there" (Thanks Mark!)

6th July 2009 and another beauty tonight, the moon was not kind though, I did see a number of quality fish show themselves.....roll on a very dark night!

Now just a few days away from the clocks goung forward and the start of the spring proper.... about eight weeks from then and I will be making arrangements to meet with the silver bullets.

It is now the 1st October 2008 and whilst the river did drop for a few days to a reasonable height it is up today yet again, as predicted, the season for the seatrout with me is a washout, roll on 2009 season and hope for better conditions....well there should be more seatrout to re produce. To all those that registered an interest for 2008, you are top of the list for 2009! roll on the magical time when the Foxgloves open up right to the top flower, for it will be time for the silver bullets.

It's now the 2nd September and I updated last on the 5th August in anticipation of the appearance of the silver tourists, the river has been up and down like a yo-yo, never dropping to a height that is conducive to night time seatrouting. Whilst a couple have been caught during daytime hours by Salmon anglers no night time seatrouting has taken place. If the river dows not go to Sumer low in the next week I am afraid that 2008 will be a washout for the seatrout.

5th August 2008, Whilst a number of Seatrout have entered the system they are not with us in the upper reaches in any numbers at present, this last bit of water we have had may alter that, checking on last years returns we were into them at this time last year.

ALTHOUGH A LONG WAY OFF AT THE MOMENT EARLY JULY 2008 WILL SEE THE SEATROUIT ARRIVE IN NUMBERS IN THE UPPER DEE. I HAVE ACCESS TO A BEAT WHERE YOU CAN BE GUIDED / I CAN SUPPLY THE TACKLE ALSO.
SEATROUT NIGHT FISHING.
Update 26th August 2007

A 2" Silver and Black tube accounted for these seatrout last night, between 10pm and 12midnight

Update 25th August 2007

Out last night with Iwan Lewis. Between us we got into some good quality Seatrout on the Dovey Black and Orange and also a 2" Silver and Black tube and the trusted Surface Lure. Sport was fast and furious with many hook ups and thrown flies as the fish cascaded across the pools. However both managed some fish, here they are,the best went 4lb.

Update 22nd August 2007

Was out last night for an hour the north wind afftced the fishing but the river height has just reached its best for night fishing. Anthony Wright had this one on a Dovey Black and Orange and lost another. Saw a number of good quality Seatrout show juyst after dark then it went dead.

Update 10th August 2007

River has been too high for the last three weeks for any serious night time fishing. On a more positive front some great seatrout have entered the system and quite a number caught on spinner and worm tactics in the high water. This has to be a noteable fish by anyone's standards. Sam did well when fishing in alower dee beat with a worm...after he shouted to his dad. 'I think I've got a fish on'. Is he ever likely to forget it?

Update 6th July 2007

Have shown the pools in the Upper Dee the flies just once up till now this season. I saw a Seatrout of about 2lb jump out one afternoon and decided to have a go...every since that evening it has been raining and the river is bank high, as soon as it drops off, there will be a chance of a fish or three.

Update 11th August 2006

Out last evening for a couple of hours, although there was cloud it was very light due to the full moon, touched Seatrout in all the pools but no proper contact, will try smaller flies this evening if the same conditions prevail, here is the largest off the beat this year so far 5lb 6oz (Picture off the Mobile Phone)

Update 3rd August 2006...the number of fish is now increasing in the beat with the arrival of the smaller Seatrout, these three fell to the Dovey Black and Orange last night, the best going 1lb 8oz, tweaks and bumps in all the pools, could not interest anything on the surface lure though.Every outing is an Education.

Update 1st August 2006....the biggest so far this year is one of 5lb 6oz which fell to yours truly again on the Dovey Black and Orange. Mark Sadler broke his Seatrout duck last night after five visits to various rivers over a period of time during visits to the UK, with this one

THIS 4lb SEATROUT TOOK A SIZE 6 DOVEY BLACK AND ORANGE, 10.45PM 11TH AUGUST AT 2005...ON THE BEAT WHERE I WOULD TAKE YOU.
